The girls volleyball team showed a lot of character and hard work as a team this year. With only 2 returning starters from last year and the rest rookies, the season looked grim. However, with dedication and valuable veteran leadership, the team made giant strides towards the end of the year.
At the zones championships this year the young team played Teulon and performed well with a valiant 25-21 loss first game, and a 25-12 loss the second game. Next came Gimli. The first game wasn’t a close affair with a 25-12 loss, however, the next game was a nail-biter with 25-23 loss. The girls all year were late starters, often playing their best during the second games and against Gimli was no different.
Then came the Warren Wildcats, a powerhouse team ranked 1# in the province. With the scores 25-7, 25-9 for Warren, nobody had high expectations to knock off the number 1 ranked team in the province, but our girls weren’t intimidated at all. They played hard and showed grit. I think they surprised themselves on how well they played against Warren. The girls can’t wait for next year now to prove to everyone what they can do.
